let the no. be x

6x=x²-16

x²-6x-16=0

x²-8x+2x-16=0

x(x-8)+2(x-8)=0

(x-8) (x+2)=0

x=8,-2

Answer:

Let the positive number be x.

 {x}^{2}  - 16 = 6x \\  {x }^{2}  - 6x - 16 = 0 \\  {x}^{2}  - 8x  +  2x - 16  = 0  \\ x(x - 8)  + 2(x - 8) = 0 \\ (x - 8)(x + 2) = 0 \\ x = 8 \: and \:  - 2 \\

Hence, the positive number is 8.

Solution is 8.
