Answer:24cm from -3micro C

Explanation:

The 3rd charge needs to be placed at the point where the fields (E) from the spheres cancel out .. as the charges are opposite this point will be where the magnitude of the +1nC field = magnitude of the -3nC field

Let the zero point be a distance 'd' from the +1 nC charge

Electric fields produced by point charges .. E = kq/R²

1nC field = 3nC field

k x 1nC / d² = k x 3nC / (0.10 - d)² .. .. (separation = 0.10m)

1/d² = 3/(0.10 - d)²

(0.10 - d)² = 3d² ..

2d² + 0.2d - 0.01 = 0 .. .. a quadratic to solve

gives solution, d = 0.037m

Zero field at .. ►d = 0.037 m from 1nC charge (0.063 m from 3nC charge)
