Or, if the plasma membrane ruptures in a hypertonic solution, where the concentration of solvent is more than that of the solute, then the water from the surroundings would enter the cell, to neutralize the solution outside, making it swell. This may eventually lead to bursting and dying.

Thus, in both the cases, the rupturing of the plasma membrane would only lead to the death of the cell.
