the reason why the poet didn't offer the boy money to buy another ball this is because the poet want the boy to understand that in futue the money couldn't buy everything he want back (memories ,time ,emotions , person who's no more and etc) he can buy a new ball but not the old memories with the old ball and the happiness that he had while playing with that ball

the poet want the boy to understand that something that are lost from us cannot come back
