Answer:

50% & 56.25%

Explanation:

a ) 60 ml of 50 % w/v HNO3 with density 1g/ml

v1 = 60ml

i,e 1ml solution contains 0.5g of HNO3

then 60ml solution contains 60 × 0.5 of HNO3

therefore w1 = 30g

but 1ml weight is 1g

so 60 ml weight w2 is 60g

now water weight is 60 - 30 = 30g

b) 100 ml of 50 % w/w HNO3 with density 1.2g/ml

v2 = 100ml

i,e 1ml solution weight is 1.2g

then 100ml solution weight is 100 × 1.2

weight of solution w3 = 120g

now weight of HNO3 = 50% w/w = 120×50/100

hence w4 = 60g

now water weight is 120 - 60 = 60g

THE MIXURE

total weight of solution w = w2 + w3

w = 60 + 120 = 180g

weight of HNO3 : w' = w1 + w4

w' = 30 + 60 = 90 g

now w/w of MIXURE = w'/w × 100 = 90/180 ×100

w/w = 50%

total volume is solution v = v1 + v2

v = 60 +100 = 160ml

but w' = 90g

then w/v of MIXURE = w'/v × 100 = 90/160 × 100

w/v = 56.25%
