A 22% gain is made by selling the mixture of two types of sandal powder at Rs.732 per kg. If the type costing Rs.840 per kg was mixed with 84 kg of the other type, how many kg of the former type was mixed ?

let say former type was mixed = x kg

cost of x kg = 840x rs

another type = 84kg

cost of another = 10y rs per kg

cost of another = 840y rs

total cost = 840x + 840y rs

gain = 22%

gain = (22/100)× 840(x+y) = 184.8(x +y)

selling price = cost + profit

840 (x +y) + 184.8 (x +y)

= 1024.8(x + y) rs

selling price = 732 × (x + 84)

732x + 61488 = 1024.8x + 1024.8y

292.8x + 1024.8y = 61488

2x + 7y = 420

multiple answer possible based on price of another

let say another was price = 600 rs/kg

10y = 600 => y = 60

2x + 7×60 = 420

x = 0

Rs 840/kg was not mixed at all

let say another was price = 500 rs/kg

10y = 500 => y = 50

2x + 7×50 = 420

x = 35

35 kg of Rs 840/kg was mixed

let say another was price = 400 rs/kg

10y = 400 => y = 40

2x + 7×40 = 420

x = 70

70 kg of Rs 840/kg was mixed

let say another was price = 300 rs/kg

10y = 300 => y = 30

2x + 7×30 = 420

x = 105

105 kg of Rs 840/kg was mixed
