Given : A café owner mixes two types of seeds, Coffee and Chicory, to prepare his coffee mixture and sells it at Rs. 40 per kg.

He earns a 10% profit Coffee and Chicory are mixed in the ratio of 3: 2.

However, if he mixes Coffee and Chicory in the ratio is 2:3, then he

earns a profit of only 5%.

To Find : the ratio of cost prices, per kg, of Coffee and Chicory?

Solution:

Cost price per kg of coffee  =    x

Cost price per kg of Chicory  =  y

   earns a 10% profit Coffee and Chicory are mixed in the ratio of 3: 2

=> cost price  = 3x  + 2y

sell price  = 5 * 40 = 200

(3x  + 2y) ( 1 + 10/100)  = 200       earns a 10% profit

=> (3x  + 2y) 1.1  =  200

if he mixes Coffee and Chicory in the ratio is 2:3, then he earns a profit of only 5%

=> cost price  = 2x  + 3y

sell price  = 5 * 40 = 200

(2x  + 3y) ( 1 + 5/100)  = 200       earns   5% profit

=> (2x  + 3y) 1.05  =  200

(3x  + 2y) 1.1  =  (2x  + 3y) 1.05

=> (3x  + 2y) 22 =  (2x  + 3y) 21

=> 66x  + 44y  = 42x  + 63y

=> 24x  =  19y

=> x / y = 19/24

Ratio of cost prices, per kg, of Coffee and Chicory = 19 : 24
