=> x = - 1 + 1 - 1 + 1 + . + . + . + .   - 1

=> x =   - 1

y = (-1)¹  -  (-1)²  + (-1)³  + . - . + . - . + (-1)²⁰⁰⁹

=> y = - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - . -  -  .  -    - 1

=> y = - 2009

x - y

= - 1 - (-2009)

= - 1 + 2009
