Given:

          7 : 9 :: 8 : x :: 6 : 2

To Find:

            The value of x ?

Solution:

               7 : 9 = 8 : x = 6 : 2     ,        we know a : b = a / b.

                7/9 = 8/x = 6/2         ....( 1 )

Taking 1st two fractions,

     7/9 = 8/x

      7 x =  72

        x =  72/ 7       ....( 2 )

now,

Taking last two fractions from ( 1 ),

     8/x = 6/2

      6x = 16

       x = 8/3           ....( 3 )

             

Hence required values of x are    72/2   &   8/3.
