Given:

A mixture of N_{2} and Co, at one atm pressure, contains 56% by weight of

To Find:

What is the partial pressure of N in the mixture?

Solution:

Here, as N_2 is of 56% of the mixture, therefore CO_2 will be 44% of the mixture.

Let us consider the mixture to be 100g

Therefore, moles of N_2 =\frac{56}{28}= 2 moles

No. of moles of CO_2=\frac{44}{44} =  1 mole

Partial Pressure of gas= Mole fraction of the gas \timesTotal pressure

Here, the total pressure is 1atm

Therefore, the partial pressure of N_2=\frac{2}{3} \times 1=0.667atm
