7. A pulley system has a velocity ratio 3. Draw a
diagram showing the point of application and
direction of load (L), effort (E) and tension (T).
It lifts a load of 150 N by an effort of 60 N.
Calculate its mechanical advantage. Is the pulley
system ideal ? Give reason.​

Explanation: Given:

L = 150N ; E = 60N ; V.R = 3

To find the Mechanical Advantage use the formula

M.A = LOAD / EFFORT

       = 150/60

       =  2.5

To know if the machine is ideal, we have to know its efficiency

which is calculated by the formula :    

M.A / V.R

= 2.5/3

=0.8

i.e the efficiency is = 80%

Therefore we can conclude that machine is not ideal beacause the efficiency is not 100%
