let 'x' be the width of the path, x>0 then the area of the path will be

the total area (field + path) - the field area = the path area

(70 + 2x)*(50 + 2x) - 70*50 = 1024

by solving we find and consider only the positive roots since x>0

x = 4 m

the width of the path is 4m.
