7. A steel ball A, of mass 20.0 kg moving with a speed of 2.0ms - collides with
another ball B of mass 10.0 kg which is initially at rest. After collision. A moves with
a speed of 1.0ms at an angle of 30° with its original direction of motion. Determine
the final velocity of B.

Answer:

m1=20kg

u1=2m/s

momentum of m1=20×2=40 kgm/s

m2=10kg

U2=0

momentum of m2=10×0=0

total momentum before collision=m1u1+m2u2

=40+0=40 kgm/s.

m1=20kg

v1=1×√3/2=√3/2.

momentum =20×√3/2=10√3 kgm/s

m2=10kg

V2=x

momentum=10×x=10x kgm/s

from the law of conservation of momentum

total momentum before collision=total momentum after collision.

m1u1+m2u2=m1v1+m2v2.

=40=10√3+10x

=40-10√3=10x

=x=40-10√3×1/10

=2.268m/s.
