Answer

Number of centuries Number of cricketers Cumulative frequency

5 56 56

10 23 79

15 39 118

20 13 131

25 8 139

To find the mean we will add up total number of centuries, then divide by total number of cricketers.

So,

Mean =

(56+23+39+13+8)

(5×56+10×23+15×39+20×13+25×8)

Mean = (280+230+585+260+200)/139=1555/139=11.18

As we can see that the number of centuries by the greatest number of crickets are 5, so, the mode will be 5.

As we can see there are 139 cricketers, arranged in increasing order of their number of centuries. So, the middle one will be (139+1)/2=140/2=70

th

cricket in the list.

So, the median will be the number of centuries corresponding to cumulative frequency, just greater or equal to 70, i.e. 10.

Therefore, median is 10.
