Atomic mass = 56 u

Explanation:

Mass of metal = 7 g

Mass of metal oxide = 9 g

Mass of oxygen = 9-7

                           = 2 g

Equivalent mass of metal = (Mass of metal x 8)/Mass of oxygen

                                          = (7 x 8)/2

                                          = 28

But we know , Equivalent mass = Atomic mass / valency

                                               28 = At. mass / 2

At. mass = 28 x 2 = 56 u
