F = 3S …(1)

F+5 = 2.5(S+5), or

F - 2.5S + 12.5–5 = 2.5S + 7.5 …(2)

Equate (1) and (2)

3S = 2.5S + 7.5

0.5S = 7.5, or

S = 15 and so F = 45.

The father is 45 years now.
