7. In a fair test, you should change only one variable so that you can see the effects of the variable you changed. Suppose you were investigating the flow rates of various liquids by measuring the time that each took to flow down a ramp.

(a) What variable would you change during the tests?

(b) What variables would you keep the same?

The ramp incline and angle, temperature and any wind effects. The flow rate will vary by viscosity and specific gravity so unfortunately these last two variables you may not be able to separate. Of course the end aim of the test really determines what variables are static and what ones are changed. An example measuring the temperature effect on the flow rate of a liquid:

Same liquid but different temperatures:

Ramp remains the same.

Head height remains the same.

Timing mechanism remains the same.

You would time the flow and record against temperature
