Given : There are two routes from Junhao's house to the Bird Park.

The first route is 19 7/10 km.

the second route is 22 1/2 km

To Find :  Which route is longer?

How much longer?

Solution:

There are two routes

The first route is 19 7/10  km = 19.7  km

the second route is 22 1/2 km = 22.5 km

22.5 > 19.7

Hence second route is longer

22.5 - 19.7  = 2.8  km

= 2  8/10

= 2 4/5 km

2.8  km of  2 4/5 km is longer

Given:

two routes from Junhao's house to the Bird Park

first rout is  19\frac{7}{10}km

second route is  22\frac{1}{2}km

Find which route is longer=?

  • so for first route :

         19\frac{7}{10}\\\\=19+\frac{7}{10}\\\\=\frac{19\times10+7}{10}\\\\ =\frac{190+7}{10}\\\\ =\frac{197}{10} \\\\=19.7

  • For second route:

        22\frac{1}{2}\\\\=22+\frac{1}{2}\\\\=\frac{22\times 2+1}{2}\\\\=\frac{44+1}{2}\\\\=\frac{45}{2}\\\\=22.5\ km

  • first route is 19.7 and the second route is 22.5
  • It is clear that second route is longer as compare to first route
  • 22.5 - 19.7 = 2.8 km

Hence the answer is second route is longer and 2.8km longer
