Cellulose is a type of a carbohydrate that can be digested by ruminants but not by humans. Ruminants have a large sac-like structure between both the intestines i.e. Small intestine and Large intestine.

In this following structure, the food containing cellulose is digested by specific bacteria. On the other hand, due to the absence of cellulose digesting enzymes, humans cannot digest cellulose.
