let the decided price of item be 100 rs

Marked price of the item

= 100 + 20% of 100 = 100 + 20 = 120

Discount on the item

= 15% of 120 = \frac{15}{100} \times 120 = 18%

Selling price of the item = Marked price of the item - Discount on the item

= 120 - 18 = 102

= 100 - 102 = 2

= 2%

Ans = hence the decided price of the item is less than the selling price of the item by 2%
