7. Suman had some apples, and she divided them into two lots A and B. She sold the first
lot at the rate of Rs. 50 for 3 apples and the second lot at the rate of Rupees 10
per apples, and got a total of Rs. 5000. If she had sold the first lot at the rate of
Rupee 10 per apples, and the second lot at the rate of Rs. 70 for 5 apples, her total
collection would have been Rs. 4000. Find the total number of apples she had.

Solution :-

Let us assume that, in lots A she has x apples and in lots B she as y apples .

so,

→ SP of 3 apples = Rs.50

→ SP of 1 apple = (50/3)

→ SP of x apples = Rs.(50x/3)

A/q,

→ (50x/3) + 10y = 5000

→ 50x + 30y = 15000

→ 5x + 3y = 1500 ------- Eqn.(1)

and,

→ SP of 5 apples = Rs.70

→ SP of 1 apple = (70/5)

→ SP of y apples = Rs.14y

A/q,

→ 10x + 14y = 4000

→ 5x + 7y = 2000 -------- Eqn.(2)

subtracting Eqn.(1) from Eqn.(2),

→ (5x + 7y) - (5x + 3y) = 2000 - 1500

→ 5x - 5x + 7y - 3y = 500

→ 4y = 500

→ y = 125 apples .

putting value of y in Eqn.(1) ,

→ 5x + 3*125 = 1500

→ 5x + 375 = 1500

→ 5x = 1500 - 375

→ 5x = 1125

→ x = 225 apples .

therefore,

→ Total number of apples suman had = 225 + 125 = 350 apples (Ans.)
