Given:

The distance of a star from the earth is

8.33 light minutes means that

it takes 8.33 minutes for light to reach the earth

from the ultimate source of light -

the Sun. The distance is large, hence light year is used.

Speed of light = 3×10⁸ ms-¹

Time = 8.33 min = 499.8s

Distance = speed × time

= 3×10⁸ × 499.8

= 1.5 × 10¹¹m
