Let the present age of Jack be x and that of Jill be y

x/y = 5/7 (The ratio of the present ages of Jack and Jill is 5: 7)

7x = 5y

y-3 = x-3+6 (Three years ago, Jill was 6 yrs older than Jack)

y-3 = x+3

y = x+6

7x = 5(x+6)

7x = 5x+5*6

7x - 5x = 30

2x = 30

x = 15

y = 15+6

y = 21

Hence Jack and Jill mentioned here : -

Jack and Jill

Went up the hill

To fetch a pail of water

Jack fell down

And broke his crown,

And Jill came tumbling after.

Up Jack got

And home did trot,

As fast as he could caper;

Went to bed

To mend his head

With vinegar and brown paper.

Jill came in

And she did grin

To see his paper plaster;

Mother, vex’d,

Did whip her next

For causing Jack's disaster.

Are now 15 and 21 years old respectively.
