today's scarcity of India and the non access to river water and lakes as they were widely polluted as their water becomes acidic due to water pollution as attended a wide problem in India. and to preserve water sources Indian govt. had initiated many steps like

1. the green shelter belt-it is launched mainly to clean the northern rivers which provide 80% water to India
2. mission ganga- ganga is the holiest and most important river for people in India almost half of northern Indian people depend on ganga for water.
3.swachh Bharat - it is initiated for cleanliness in India but also mainly focus on river pollution as they were main source of livelihood
4. many posters and campaign were organised to make people responsible towards cleanliness.
5. in many cities water treatment plants were setup to clean and purify dirty water before releasing into the river.
6. many sites of visits were censored or banned by govt. to stop people going and polluting the water by throwing garbage.
7.National river clean initiative - it is launched in the 1990's along with the United Nations support to clean rivers of pollution above highest level for marine organism to live and had sanctioned 560+ projects but not 100+ were finished till now
