Pick them up. hug them dry away the tears and look at the wound. If it’s a scrape then say oh its just a scrape. Wipe off the dirt and kiss the wound and the child and let them go off to play again. If you make a big fuss of something that is really nothing at all then you are traumatizing the child. Then every tiny little bump or fall the child will cry and come running to you. When they get bigger then it turns to fear of falling and not being able to help themselves. When they get into middle school it becomes fear of trying anything new. When they become adults it turns to fear of doing anything out of the ordinary and not wanting to do anything that they have never done before or go to places that they have never been before.

Never coddle a kid when it isn’t necessary. If it’s a huge cut and blood is streaming out of course that is major but you still down play it not to traumatize the kid more. But you get help as fast and quickly as possible. Still hug and kiss the child but move quickly.
