Answer:

criss-cross inheritance The transmission of a gene from mother to son or father to daughter; e.g. in X-chromosome linkage. Classical examples are wing colour in the magpie moth (Abraxus), and feather pattern (barred v. non-barred) in chickens.

Criss-cross Inheritance

  • The criss-cross inheritance is the inheritance of a gene from father to the daughter or from mother to the son.
  • The genes present on the X-chromosome lead to a criss-cross pattern of inheritance.
  • Father does not transmit the sex-linked allele of a trait to his son. The same is passed to the daughter, from where it reaches the grandson.

Example : Colourblindness is an example of a criss-cross inheritance. Gene for colourblindness is X-linked recessive. Expressed in homozygous condition in females and in hemizygous condition in males. If a colourblind woman marries a normal man. The daughter progenies will be normal visioned but carrier for the disease. Sons will be colourblind.
