Explanation:

Principle of Optical Microscope (Compound Microscope)

An optical microscope creates a magnified image of an object specimen with an objective lens and magnifies the image further more with an eyepiece to allow the user to observe it by the naked eye. ... In short, the last image to be observed is an inverted virtual image.

Principle of electron microscopy

Electrons are such small particles that, like photons in light, they act as waves. A beam of electrons passes through the specimen, then through a series of lenses that magnify the image. The image results from a scattering of electrons by atoms in the specimen.

Explanation:

Optical microscope works on the basis of lens. It doesn't have much power and hence doesn't give much larger view.

Electron microscope works on the production of electrons and it has a very high power and so can easily view much closer, if required.
