1. Some uses of metals are as follows :

Aluminium foils are used for packaging medicines, chocolates, decorating sweets, wrapping food, etc.

Aluminium metal (in the form of alloys) is used to make aeroplanes.

Iron, copper, and aluminium metals are used for making cooking utensils.

Aluminium metal is used for making electric cables and over-head electric transmission lines.

Mercury metal is used for making thermometers.

Silver and gold metals are used for making jewelleries.

Zinc metal is used for galvanising iron to protect it from rusting.

Oxygen is a non-metal which is used by plants and animals for breathing. It is also used in the process of burning (or combustion) of fuels in our homes.

Chlorine is a non-metal which is used in the purification of water.

Iodine is a non-metalwhich is used for making a purple- coloured solution called tincture iodine which is used as an antiseptic on cuts and wounds.

Sulphur and phosphorus are non-metals which are used in fireworks.

Carbon is a non-metal which is used as a fuel.
