let 1/x ==a 
now 7a+4y=1 therefore a= 1-4y/7                 (i)
also 5a+2y =-1  tf  a=-1-2y/5          (ii)
from 1 and 2
5-20y=-7-14y
therefore solving y= 2 and a=-1 
therefore x=-1
