Given :

Mass of metal oxide = 70g

Mass of metal = 54g

Atomic weight of metal = 81

To find :

The Valency of the metal

Solution :

Total weight is 70g

Weight of metal is 54 g

Therefore, weight of oxygen = total weight - weight of metal

= (70-54)g

=16g

We know,

Weight of metal / equivalent mass of metal = weight of exygen / equivalent mass of oxygen

Therefore,54/M = 16/8

=> M =( 54 × 8)/ 16

M= 27 g/mol

We know ,

Valency = Molar mass / equivalent mass

= 81 / 27

= 3

THEREFORE, THE VALENCY OF THE METAL IS 3
