If there are 100 candidates, then
candidates failed in English =30
candidates failed in Maths = 35
candidates failed in both = 27
candidates failed in at least one subject = 30+35-27 = 38
candidates passed in both subjects = 62
If 62 candidates passed in both subjects, then total candidates = 100
If 248 candidates passed in both subjects, then total candidates = 100*248/62=400
