71x+37y=253                 ...(i)
37x+71y=287                 ...(ii)
add (i) and (ii) to get
108(x+y)=540
= x+y=5                         ....(iii)
substract (ii) from (i) to get
34(x-y)=-34
=x-y=-1                            ...(iv)
add (iii) and (iv)
x+y+x-y=5+(-1)
=2x=4
=x=2
putting the value of x in(iii) we get
2+y=5
y=3
hence x=2 and y=3

Answer:

x=2 ;y=3

71x+37y=253 --- (1)

37x+71y=287------(2)

By substitution Method

step 1:-We pick either of the equation and write one variable in terms of other

let us consider equation 1

71x+37y=253

71x=253-37y

x=253-37y/71--(3)

Step 2:- substituting this value of x from equation 3 in equation 2

37{253-37y/71}+71y =287

9361-1369y/71+71y =287

1(9361 -1369y)+71(71y)/71=287

9361 -1369y+5041y=287(71)

9361+ 3672y=20377

3672y = 20377 - 9361

y=11016/3672

y=3
