The 73rd and 74th Amendment paved the way for leadership and political empowerment for women. The 73rd Amendment dealing with panchayats provided 1/3 reservation for women representation in panchayats. 1/3 of the total numbers offices of chairpersons at each level are reserved for women.
Similarly the 74th Amendment which deals with Municipalities reserve the same representation for women in local urban bodies.
