1. Read the following passage carefully:
I was briefed to rescue a New Zealand Air Force Pilot. Pilot office campbell on(a special photo race
mission in a Hurricane aircraft that had crashed about 50/60 miles behind Japanese lines) However
he had been able to extract the camera with Very important photograph of Japanese troop
movement and location of an ammunition dump.
The 'Fun' started when we reached the coastal village around midnight. We spotted a couple of
Japanese soldier dozing off and on. The village dogs barking woke up the japanese soldiers and we
sat frozen with baited breath in our hiding in the bushes. Half an hour later two or more Japanese
joined them and then all want away towards the hill to the North. After waiting we quickly rushed to
our guide Rahim's hut. The Japanese has got smell of us and regularly visited village searching the
huts for strangers. We planned to move out the same night but the pilot was too sick to move. I
carried him 300 yards across the beach to the boat.
As soon as we broke out of the bushes into the open beach, a very light flare fired from the hill to the
North, lit up the area. We immediately lay frozen on the ground. We expected the firing anytime and
we were taken as sitting ducks. bUt it was all quiet after 5 minutes, which seemed like an enternity,
we got up and moved towards our boat. While we were getting into the boat , the Japanese fired
another very light fire and opened fire with light machine guns. We had to fight the surfs and the
rowers were absolutely exhausted.
We were out in the open sea and safe. About half an hour later we were picked by the launch
boat.
I handed the entire information about the ammunition dump in the cave. The dump was bombarded
and I was thrilled at the success of the mission.
