Reading is a hobby that greatly builds the personality and opens the mind's horizons. Many great personalities like Dr. APJ Kalam also laid emphasis on being open to ideas. In fact, he once said,"Coming into contact with a good book and possessing it, is indeed an everlasting enrichment."
Some people seek enrichment out of habit and love for reading, while others are forced to seek enrichment for profit. There is a big difference between the habitual reader and the one who feels pushed towards reading. The strange part is that a little adjustment in attitude can bring us a lot of joy. For example, if someone preparing for competitive exams decides to enjoy reading, half the stress is gone! So, let us try to inculcate a love of reading and enjoy the many benefits it brings.
Taking the same sentiment forward, let us begin our Reading Day programme to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr.Kalam, the man of a few words, but immense knowledge. I would request Principal Sir to please address the audience.
(The Principal's speech)
Thank you sir. Those were indeed words of wisdom that we will strive to abide by.
Our school conducts and participates in numerous literacy activities throughout the year. We would like to take this opportunity to honour the students who have excelled in both intra and inter school activities.
(Prizes given out)
Can we now please have a big round of applause for these accomplished achievers? Well done!
And now before we go, let each one of us make a silent promise to ourselves that we will try to engage in a little reading each day, even if it is something as short as a joke or even a bedtime story. It does not matter how short or long the text is, as long as you learn to enjoy it. So happy reading everyone and don't break your promise!
