According to the rule :

The sum of two sides of a triangle should be greater than the third side of the triangle.

So, let's see,

8.4 + 4.9 = 13.3

Now, it is clear that 13.3 (sum of two sides) is less than the third one and we can conclude that it's not possible to make a triangle with the given sides.

Solution :

Let a , b and c are three line

segments ,

a =8.4cm , b=16.4cm , c=4.9cm

**************************************

We know the theorem,

Sum of any two sides of a

triangle is greater than the

third side .

**************************************

Here ,

i ) a + b = 8.4+16.4 = 24.8 >c

True

ii ) b + c = 16.4+4.9 = 21.3 > a

True

iii ) c + a = 4.9+8.4 = 13.3 > b

( False )

Therefore,

Given three line segments

cannot form a triangle.
