Answer:

Given

8.75m of cloth costs Rs 420

Can be written as

8.75 × 1 m = 420

1m = 42000/875

1m = Rs /- 48

Now Question says " find the cost of 3.5 m of the same cloth "

we will have to multiply it only

cost of 3.5 m = 3.5 × 48

= ( 7/2 ) × 48

= 24 × 7

= Rs /- 168

To find: cost of one meter of the cloth.

Given : 8.75 m of cloth cost 490.

solution:

  • We are given that cost of 8.75 m of cloth is Rs\ 490. Let us find cost of $1 \mathrm{~m}$ cloth,
  • Cost of $8.75 \mathrm{~m}=Rs \ 490
  • Hence cost of  1 m=\frac{1 \times 490}{8.75}
  • To remove decimal we multiply numerator and denominator by 100 .

        1 m=\frac{490 \times 100}{8.75 \times 100}

             = \frac{49000}{875}  \\= 56

Hence , cost of one meter of the cloth  is Rs \ 56 .
