The man's rate is 5 km/h

Step-by-step explanation:

Let man rate is x km/h

Let stream rate is y km/h

Man with stream 6 km/h

Therefore, x + y = 6  -----------(1)

Man against stream 4 km/h

Therefore, x - y = 4   -------------(2)

Solve system of equation (1) and (2)

2x = 10

x = 5

y = 1

hence, the man's rate is 5 km/h

AnswEr :

Let the Speed of Man be x Km/hr, and the Speed of Stream be y Km/hr.

  • Downstream = 6 Km/hr
  • Upstream = 4 Km/hr

But Downstream = (x + y) Km/hr

And, Upstream = (x – y) Km/hr

Therefore, we will Add Both Terms :

⇒ (x + y) = 6

⇒ (x – y) = 4

_______________

⇒ x + x = (6 + 4) Km/hr

⇒ 2x = 10 Km/hr

  • Dividing both term by 2

x = 5 Km/hr

Hence, Speed of Man will be 5 Km/hr.

V E R I F I C A T I O N :

↠ Downstream = 6 Km/hr

↠ (x + y) Km/hr = 6 Km/hr

↠ 5 Km/hr + y = 6 Km/hr

↠ y = (6 - 5) Km/hr

y = 1 Km/hr

↠ Upstream = 4 Km/hr

↠ (x - y) Km/hr = 4 Km/hr

↠ 5 Km/hr - y = 4 Km/hr

↠ (5 - 4) Km/hr = y

y = 1 Km/hr

Speed of Stream is 1 in Both Case.

Hence, Verified!
