let the original distance be x

so x = 1/3x + 2/5x + 28 Km

=> x = (5x+6x+420)/15

=> 15x = 11x+420

=> 15x-11x = 420

=> 4x = 420

=> x = 420/4

=> x = 105 Km

So he travelled 105 Km
