Step-by-step explanation:

Hi ,

Here we use the concept of Absolute

Value of an integer.

Absolute value of an integer is the

numerical value of the integer

regardless of its sign.

If ' x ' is an integer then its absolute

value is denoted by | x | and is

defined as

i ) | x | = x , if x is positive.

ii ) | x | = 0 , if x is zero,

iii ) | x | = - x , if x is negative.

According to the given problem ,

Distance of the flight above the sea

level = 5000m

Distance of the submarine below the

Sea level = -1200m

Vertical distance between flight and

Submarine = | 5000 | + | - 1200 |

= 5000 + 1200

= 6200 m

I hope this helps you.

Answer: Height of flight the plane = 5000 m ( above sea level )

Height of floating of submarine = 1200 m ( below sea level )

Vertical distance between them = 5000 + 1200

                                                        = 6200 m
