Given data : A rectangular garden is 40 m long & 30 m wide. A 2 m wide path is to be paved inside the garden along it's boundary, using tiles 25 cm x 20 cm in size. How many such tiles will be required?
Solution :
Now, according to the question we know that,
- Length of garden = 40 m
- Breadth of garden = 30 m
Now,
⟹ Area of rectangular garden
= Length * breadth
⟹ Area of rectangular garden
= 40 * 30
⟹ Area of rectangular garden
= 1200 m²
We know that, 2 m wide path is paved inside the rectangular garden along it's boundary, due to path, there is one rectangle is form inside rectangular garden.
Hence,
Length of inside rectangle
= 40 - 2 * {Length of wide path}
Length of inside rectangle
= 40 - 2 * 2
Length of inside rectangle
= 40 - 4
Length of inside rectangle
= 36 m
similarly,
Breadth of inside rectangle
= 30 - 2 * {Length of wide path}
Length of inside rectangle
= 30 - 2 * 2
Length of inside rectangle
= 30 - 4
Length of inside rectangle
= 26 m
Now,
⟹ Area of inside rectangle
= Length * breadth
⟹ Area of inside rectangle
= 36 * 26
⟹ Area of inside rectangle
= 936 m²
Here,
⟹ Area of path inside garden
= Area of rectangular garden - Area of inside rectangle
⟹ Area of path inside garden
= 1200 - 936
⟹ Area of path inside garden
= 264 m²
Now,
Let, length of tile be 25 cm and breadth of tile be 20 cm.
- length of tile = 25 cm = 25/100 = 0.25 m
- breadth of tile = 20 cm = 20/100 = 0.2 m
Now,
⟹ Area of tile = Length * breadth
⟹ Area of tile = 0.25 * 0.2
⟹ Area of tile = 0.05 m²
Now, to find requirement of tiles,
Requirement of tiles
= Area of path inside garden/Area of tile
Requirement of tiles
= 264/0.05
Requirement of tiles
= 5280
Answer : Hence, 5280 tile will be used in 2m wide path inside the rectangular garden.
