A sample of ideal gas at 75°C and 2 atm pressure
occupies 150 mL. The gas is cooled at constant
pressure so that volume is reduced to 85 mL. The
final temperature of the gas is [NCERT Pg. 145]
(1) - 75.8°C
2197.2°C
(3) - 75.8 K
(4) 42.5°C

Given - T1 = 75°C

V1 = 150 mL

V2 = 85 mL

Find - Final temperature of gas

Solution - We can find final temperature of gas by the relation - V1/T1 = V2/T2. In the mentioned relation, V1 is original volume, V2 is final volume, T1 is original temperature and T2 is final temperature.

Converting temperature to Kelvin.

T1 = 273 + 75

T1 = 348 K

Keeping the values in the formula, to get the value of final temperature.

150/348.15 = 85/T2

T2 = 197.2 K

Now, temperature in Celsius is = -75.8 °C

Hence, correct answer is (1) - 75.8°C

Answer:

The final temperature of the gas is (1) - 75.8°C

Explanation:

To discover the final temperature of the gas by the relation

V1/T1 = V2/T2.

In the mentioned relation, V1 stands for original volume,

V_{2} stands for the final volume,

T_{1} stands for original temperature and

T_{2}stands for final temperature.

Converting temperature to Kelvin.

T_{1} = 273 + 75

T_{1}  = 348 K

Keeping the values in the formula, to bring the value of the final temperature.

150/348.15 = 85/T_{2}

T_{2} = 197.2 K

Now, temperature in Celsius exists = -75.8 °C

Hence, correct answer is (1) - 75.8°C
