8. A train covers a distance of 81 km in 36 minutes. Find its speed in km/h.​

Answer:

Know that speed is the distance covered by a moving object (a train in your case) in a unit time taken. It is a scalar quantity and hence can be represented by magnitude not direction. In other words, speed of an object is the rate of change of distance with time

Speed = distance traveled ÷ time taken

Distance = 504 km

Time = 4.5 hrs

Speed = (504÷4.5) km/hr

= 112 km/hr

But the SI Units of speed is m/s.

Noting that:

1km = 1000m, and

1 hr = 60 m = 3600 s

Therefore,

Speed = 112×3.6 m/s

= 403.2 m/s
