The height of the tower is 19 m if a tower casts a shadow 51 m long and at the same time  a vertical pole of length 19 m casts a shadow 57 m long on the ground

Given:

  • A vertical pole of length 19 m casts a shadow 57 m long on ground
  • At the same time a tower casts a shadow 51 m long

To Find:

  • The height of the tower

Solution:

Concept/Formula to be used:

At a same time and at same place Ratio of Height of object and length of object shadow on ground is constant

Step 1:

Find ratio of Height of pole with shadow of pole:

Ratio  = 19/57

Ratio = 1/3

Step 2:

Assume height of tower = h m and

Find ratio of Height of tower with shadow of tower:

Ratio  = h/51

Step 3:

Equate both the ratios and solve for h:

h/51  = 1/3

=> h = 51/3

=> h = 17

The height of the tower is 17 m

Correct option is c) 17 m
