80% of x = 80/100 x x 0.8x

Remaining Amount of the man's salary will:

X-0.8x = 0.2x

Find 10% of the remainder:

10% of 0.2x = 10/100 x 0.2x = 0.02x

Add the the two to find the total he has used from his salary

0.8x + 0.02x = 0.82x

Therefore this man has used 0.82x of his salary. Find the remainder:

X-0.82x = 0.18x

Therefore what is left of his salary = 0.18x
