8. An aeroplane flies 100 km with a uniform speed
of 250 km h-1 and then another 200 km with a
uniform speed of 350 kmh-?. Calculate the (a)
total time travelled by the aeroplane, and (b)
average speed of the aeroplane.
Ans : (a) 0.97h, (b) 309.2 kmh-1

Explanation: For (a)  - Find out the time taken for 100 km flight with the given speed {the answer is 0.4 hr}  then find out the time taken for 200 km with given speed {the answer is 0.57hr } Add the results. Then total time = 0.97 hrs

For (b) - The formula for average speed is s(1) + s(2)/ t1 + t2

(s - distance    t-time )

Average speed = 100+200 /  0.97  = 309.27 kmh-1
