We know that,
- a = Acceleration
- v = Final velocity
- t = Time
- u = Initial velocity
Acceleration of ostrich:
Using the formula,
Given that,
Final velocity (v) = 144 km/h = 40 m/s
Time taken (t) = 2 s
Substituting their values,
40 = 0 + (a) × 2
40 = 2a
a = 40/2
a = 20 m/s²
Acceleration of leopard:
Given that,
Final velocity (v) = 108 km/h = 30 m/s
Time taken (t) = 3 s
Substituting their values,
30 = 0 + (a) × 3
30 = 3a
a = 30/3
a = 10 m/s²
Finding the ratio of their acceleration,
Acceleration of leopard = 20 m/s²
Acceleration of ostrich = 10 m/s²
20 : 10 = 20/10
= 2 : 1
Therefore, the ratio of their acceleration is 2 : 1.
