A tap can fill an empty tank in 48 minutes, whereas another tap can empty the full tank in 2 hours. If both the taps are opened at 11:40 a.m, when will the empty tank be filled ?

\huge {\bold {\mathbb {\overline {\underline {ANSWER}}}}}

 \frac{1}{48}  -  \frac{1}{120}  \\  =  \frac{5}{240}  -  \frac{2}{240}  \\  =  \frac{3}{240} (interchange \: it) \\  =  \frac{240}{3}  \\  = 80 \: mins.

Thus the time taken to fill the empty tank

= 11.40 + 80

= 1 pm

Answer:

1:00 PM

Step-by-step explanation:

1 min. filling =1/48

1 min. empty=1/(2*60)

In 1 min. tank will be filled = (1/48)-[1/(2*60)]=1/80

So tank will completely filled in 80 min. from the start.

So , 11:40 + 80 min = 1:00 PM
