Answer: 1\frac{17}{36}

Step-by-step explanation:

\frac{8}{9} +\frac{7}{12}

While addition/subtraction of fractions note that denominators have to be equal

If not we have to find the LCM of both denominators and multiply them so that they are equal.

9 = 3 x 3

12= 2 x 2 x 3

To find LCM you have to check where highest number of 2s and 3s are available

Highest no.of 2s is 2 times ( 2 x 2)

Highest no.of 3s is 2 times (3 x 3)

So, you have to multiply them

2 x 2 x 3 x 3

=36

So to change 9 as 36 we have to multiply it by 4

To change 12 as 36 we have to multiply it by 3

Whatever changes we make to the denominator should also be made to numerator.

So, as we are multiplying 9 by 4 we should also multiply 8 by 4 (8 x 4 = 32)

As we are multiplying 12 by 3 we should also multiply 7 by 3 (7 x 3 = 21)

\frac{32}{36 } + \frac{21}{36}

=53/36

Now you have to see whether both denominator and numerator has common factors.

But 53 is a prime number, so we can come to a conclusion that both don't have same factors.

53/36 = Quotient 1; Remainder 17

1\frac{17}{36} is the final answer.
