Dirty water containing chemicals is put back in the river. Water used for cooling is warmer than the river itself, and this is also a form of pollution. People are sometimes careless and throw rubbish such as bottles and crisp packets directly into rivers. Pollution kills water plants and animals.

Some ways in which we can control river pollution are :-

1) Hot water should be cooled before release from the power plant.

2) Domestic cleaning in tanks, steams, and rivers which supply drinking water, should be prohibited.

3) Excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides should be avoided.

4) Organic farming and efficient use of animal residue as fertilizers.
